Question: Are e-courses usually sent out by e-mail in segments or ''chapters'' or are they bought in full off a website? – Paula

Great question, Paula! There are several schools of thoughts with this question. I’ll discuss some of them.

One thought is to send each “session” or “episode” of your ecourse in email format in its entirety. In other words, put the whole content of that particular session in the body of the email.

Another school of thought is to only give a brief outline, or just a couple of sentences, of that particular session and then give a link back to a page on your website. (this is one I like for several reasons that I’ll discuss another time)

Other people like to put all the links to all the sessions to that particular email on one page of their site and send out an email to the subscribers telling them about it. The subscribers can then listen/read/view the ecourse at their own time span.

These three “methods” if you will, are all good and they all work well. There is no one way better than the other. You can find examples of all these throughout the internet world.

The bottom line is your comfort zone. How you feel more comfortable with your business. Make sense?

Hey, have you seen the new link about all the ebooks that are waiting for you? Check it out here.

How can I make an eCourse as a requirement before letting people have my 77-page free ebook about essential oils? – Kathryn

An ecourse as a requirement…..whew, that's a tough one. You see, once you REQUIRE someone to receive something, that will limit who actually gets it and who doesn't.

One thing you can do is something called "Donkey Smuggling". Well, a version of it.

I won't get into the details of what Donkey Smuggling is, or how it got it's name, but it's used everyday. Over the internet and real live everyday stuff as well.

So, to cut to the chase, what you can do Kathryn, is develop and ecourse that, when completed, has a link to your book at the end. That way, someone would have to go through the ecourse (at least receive it) before they can gain access to your ebook.

You may even want to let the folks know that at the completion of the ecourse, they're receive an "offer" of some sorts. Play around with the wording so you feel comfortable with it.

Great Question! If you have a question about ecourses, or product creation, or internet marketing, please shoot me an email and I'll see what I can do to answer it! Email me here.

A new subscriber, Sherree, asked me this questions: "To Do or Not To Do?"

My answer to that question may shock a few of you, it may be what some consider counter intuitive. It may be so far off of what people think, I may be getting "Drew, you're crazy" type of emails.

Let me explain my reasoning to my answer before I actually give my answer.

I believe something happens in your business because you take action. Sure, you'll always get people who stumble upon your site, and you'll get people who buy your stuff so one could argue that happens by accident. I wanted to say that just to get it out of the way for people who will have that thought after they read my answer.

So, all that being said, you need to take action in your business for something to happen. So, yes, you HAVE to do something in your business to make it work.

BUT, the question is "To Do or Not To Do?" I say if you have to ask, then do NOT do it! Why? Because if you have to ask that means there is some part of you that doesn't want to do it and you won't be doing it with heart, just going through the motions.

Now, doing something is better than doing nothing, but that wasn't the question. So there you have it, that's my answer. If you don't understand it, maybe you should read this again. *smile*

If you decide to do it, then you may want to check out this audio program:

"55 Things You Should (and shouldn’t) Know About Ecourses (and product creation)" audio program.

How is your business doing? Only you can answer that question as you are the only one that knows the ins and outs of your business.

Is it making money for you? Is it bringing in the clients you want it to? Are you getting the results you feel you should?

If you are, great! Take what you got, bottle it up and use it for a product of some sorts. After all, you're in business to make money, right? If something is working for you and you feel others can benefit from it, then by all means market it for yourself!

But, if what you are doing hasn't produced the results you want, then it's ok to try something else. Yes, I said it. It OK TO TRY SOMETHING ELSE!

Notice I didn't say give up on anything. I'm saying try something else. Here's an analogy for you….. if you're a pitcher for a baseball team and everyone hits your curveball, do you keep throwing it? Of course not! You may change a bit and start throwing fastballs. You're still pitching but you're just changing, or tweeking, a few things. Get it?

Have the same attitude with your ecourse or a product you create or your marketing efforts. But whatever you do, keep moving forward with your business!

If you're looking for another product to market, check out Mega Package III by clicking here.

Hi Drew, I've just signed up for your complimentary e-course on creating e-courses, and look forward to starting. A burning question I have is how you protect your e-course material from being illegally copied and distributed. I think this would be a problem if an e-course contains genuine material of much value. Competitors and opportunists would latch on quickly to make money off it. Look foward to hearing from you.–Tianung

Thanks for the sign up! I hope my info helps you out. As far as your question goes, that’s a real good one. I get asked that a lot.

There are two methods of thought behind this. One is if you have links and phrases that send people back to your website, it shouldn’t matter if someone steals your info or not. What I mean by that is as long as your stuff gets distributed, you’ll have business coming back to you. I know of some people that actually WANT others to steal their stuff! Yup, it's crazy, but it works for them.

The other school of thought is the one that you have. Matter of fact, no one likes to have their stuff stolen and distributed, that’s just a given. If that’s the case, you can always password protect the info you give out. Will that stop it completely? Nope, but fewer people actually pass out info that is password protected than if it isn’t. Currently, I subscribe to the first version. I like the “free” traffic, for lack of a better term.

Hope that helps! Keep the questions coming!

I want to start running eCourses. I am a very confident teacher and public speaker, but not sure about the technology – Sarah.

Great question Sarah! Thanks for asking. First of all, great job on the confidence thing! As we all know, public speaking is one of the toughest things to do. If you can master that (or at least be confident with it) then you have a GREAT foundation for an ecourse.

It just seems like a perfect fit for either an audio ecourse or a video ecourse. One of the things I would suggest is get yourself some sort of audio recorder like Audacity (I use it often). Pick your topic of choice and start talking!

Once you're done, divide it up into logical sections and bingo, you got yourself an audio ecourse in it's rough form! Of course, there are other things you need to do with it, but at least you'll get this part done.

Oh, will also need some sort of email distribution program as well. I use Kick Start Cart. You can check out their 30 day trial by clicking on the link here.

Great question! Keep them coming!

Utilizing the power of an Ecourse is a lot like fishing for sharks. Professional shark hunters don't put a worm on a hook and throw it in the water. They have to entice the sharks to come get the bait. The proper term for this enticing stuff is "chum."

The more enticing the chum, the better the attraction for the shark. The same concept is used for Ecourses. Most Ecourses are designed to attract people to whatever it is that is being sold. The more enticing your Ecourse, the better the attraction for your subscribers.

Your Ecourse is sort of like Chum. Get it?

Free chum makes people want to stay around until they find the "bait" they really like.

And your "bait" is your sellable produts. So ask yourself, how good is your chum? Is it the best stuff you can use to attract your subscribers?

The best way to figure this out is by offering the best possible chum you can come up with. Yes, it's that simple!

Is your "chum" up to par with the experts? Click here to find out more about what I'm talking about.

One of the things I wanted to accomplish in January is to "get skinny". Not in the sense of weight loss (although that coming along as well), but in the sense of taking away the items that are draining my business financially.

I believe business is all about profit, so the more profit you have, the better off you'll be. That being said, I took a look at EVERY aspect of my personal and business financial outflow and found several items that could be replaced by something else of less cost but of equal or greater value.

Oh, I'm sure if I list the items, people with argue and debate me that what I got rid of was better than what I picked up….bla-bla-bla. I'm not here to push what I do and don't use (you can find that in the side bars), I'm just saying that it may be a good business practice to really look at what you have and determine if you really, truly need THAT particular service or find one that's more suitable.

Here's an example. I contacted my cell phone provider just to find out options. I found out that because of the minutes I use, I could change my current plan, add texting (I'm not a fan of it but several of my friends from across the country are and it was costing me to receive their texts) and actually DROP my monthly fee by about $10/month! Not a big deal, but when you consider all I did was make a phone call and talk to someone for about 15 min, that call saved me $120 for this year.

Get it? So, when I say I'm getting skinny, I'm actually making my bank account fatter, get it!

Speaking of getting your bank accounts fatter, are you an affiliate of mine? You can promote the products I have and make money by doing so. Heck, why not? It's another revenue stream for you and best of all, it costs you NOTHING!
